Part 2
I slept on the couch in the sitting room that night. Dare came to the sitting room to ask me to join him in bed. But I nearly hit him and aggressively asked him to leave me alone.
Dare reluctantly went to bed without me. It was the first time in our marriage that we will sleep in different rooms in the same house. I found it difficult to sleep without my husband beside me. But I was too angry with my husband to be in bed with him. I managed to sleep after staying awake for a long time.
I woke up early to prepare breakfast and also get the children ready for school even though I was still angry with my husband.
" Good morning, dear," Dare greeted as soon as he got to the sitting room. But I ignored him and continued what I was doing.
" Dear, we were fine in the morning. I don't understand what happened after you came back from the market. I promise to give more money as soon as my salary is raised," Dare said calmly. I know that he is trying to patch up things with me. But his words increased my anger.
" Stop talking to me except you have more money to give me," I told Dare angrily.
" Good morning, mum and dad," our children greeted as soon as they got to the sitting room. Dare responded cheerfully while I muttered a response.
I served Dare and our children breakfast and left the dinning room to the kitchen to avoid talking with Dare. Normally, Dare and me always have a little conversation while they take their breakfast.
" See you later, dear," I heard Dare say before leaving the house. From the kitchen where I stood doing nothing, I heard the footsteps of the children running out of the house.
" Mum," a voice called behind me startling me. I turned around to see Adesola, my last child. She was staring at me like she could see through me.
" What are you doing here? Aren't you going to school? Your father will leave you behind," I said while trying to calm my nerves.
" Don't worry about that, mum. I told that I forgot something in the house," Adesola, said with a smile.
" So what did you forget?" I asked Adesola. She looked at me and smiled sweetly. From her smiles, I could tell that she lied.
" Actually, mum, I didn't forget anything. I just want to talk to you," Adesola said slowly while looking at the floor.
" You know lying is a sin, right?" I asked Adesola.
" I'm sorry, mum. I won't do it again," Adesola said calmly.
" You better not otherwise, you will regret it," I told Adesola sternly. Adesola nodded timidly.
" Good. Now, what do you want to talk to me about?" I asked Adesola curiously.
" Mum, is everything okay? Are you having problems with daddy?" Adesola quizzed curiously. I was taken aback by her question. I didn't expect such a question from a five-year old girl.
" No. Why did you ask?" I replied and asked as soon as I got over the shock.
" Well, you kept giving daddy angry glares and you didn't sit with us to talk with daddy like you normally do. So, I concluded that you may be angry with daddy," Adesola said with a shrug.
"Mum is not quarreling with daddy. It's just that mummy has a lot of things to do today that's why she couldn't stay at the dinning room with you," I said calmly, trying my best to convince Adesola.
Dare and me made a promise to each to keep our children out of our marital issues for the sake of their mental health and overall well-being.
" Okay, mum. I'm glad you are not quarreling with daddy. I'm off to school," Adesola said with a smile, gave me a hug and ran out of the kitchen.
Soon I heard Dare's car driving out of the compound. I quickly took my phone and called my friend, Rita.
" Rita, I don't think my husband has that kind of money. If he does, he would have given me," I told Rita as soon as she answered the call.
" Bummi, do you know that you are such a fool? So, because your husband is pretending not to have money, you are already falling for his stunts," Rita said angrily.
" What do you want me to do? I'm already tired of the lack of peace in my home. My children are starting to notice it," I told Rita truthfully.
" Just yesterday and you are already tired. It's like you are comfortable with the peanut your husband is giving you for the upkeep of the family. I'm sorry for putting my mouth in a matter that doesn't concern me," Rita said calmly. But I can tell that she is angry.
" It's not like that. I just don't know what to do to make Dare give me more money," I told Rita tiredly.
" It's your cup of tea not mine. But if I were in your shoes, I will keep making trouble with Dare until he gives me enough money to cater for my needs and that of the family," Rita said firmly.
" What about the children? They are already noticing the rift between Dare and me. I don't want to drag them into this mess," I told Rita.
" If you like think about your children and continue to play the fool while your husband lavishes his money on his girlfriends," Rita said angrily and ended the call.
I am at a crossroad. I don't know what to do.
* Should I go with Rita's suggestions no matter the effect it will have on my children or should I make peace with my husband and continue to collect the peanut he has been giving me?* I asked myself silently.
