Part 5
For the next two weeks, I totally ignored my husband. I hardly give my children attention. Each time they come to me for one thing or the other, I either tell them that I'm busy or ask them to meet their father.
At this point, the children are fully aware that I'm having marital problems with their father. They pleaded with me countless times to forgive Dare for any wrong he had done to me. But I told them that their father knows what to do if he wants peace in the home.
Dare reported me to our pastor and he came to the house.
" Sister Bummi, please stop making yourself available for the devil to use. The devil is using you to destroy the home it took you ten years to build. Stop yielding to the devil. Allow peace to reign in your home," Pastor Charles said calmly.
" Sister Bummi, my husband is right. Please allow peace to reign in your home," the pastor's wife added calmly.
* Why is everyone blaming me? Can't they see my husband's fault?* I asked myself silently.
" Daddy and mummy, I thank you for coming to settle our marital problems. But if I may ask, did my husband tell you what the issue is? " I asked our pastor and his wife as calmly as possible, trying so hard to keep my anger in check.
" Yes, he did. But he also said that for now, he can't give you the amount you are asking for," Pastor Charles replied. I flared up immediately.
" So, you came here to tell me to play the 'understanding wife', right? Well, sorry to burst your bubbles. I ain't making any peace with Dare until he gives me the money I'm asking for," Iashed at Pastor Charles and his wife and angrily left the sitting room.
" Bummi, what's wrong with you? Why are you walking out on our pastor and his wife?" I heard Dare yell before I was finally out of the sitting room.
After they left, Dare met in the bedroom looking very angry. My Dare has always been very calm and collected. I have never seen him this angry in our ten years of marriage.
" What's the meaning of what you displayed before our pastor and his wife?" Dare asked calmly but I could see the looming volcano behind his calmness.
" I didn't invite them over. You did. So, deal with it," I told Dare angrily. Dare folded his fists and hit the wall above my head so head. I nearly fainted. For a minute there when Dare's fists were coming my way, I thought he was going to hit me. I looked at Dare who was breathing hard in shock. I quickly left the bedroom for the sitting room.
I initially thought that Dare would come after me but he didn't. I quickly brought out my phone and called Rita.
" Hey, Bummi, has he given you the money?" Rita asked as soon as she answered the call.
" Money ke? Dare nearly beat me up today," I told Rita still trying hard to get over the shock.
" Dare nearly beat you? Is he stupid or something?" Rita yelled angrily.
" Rita, I think I'm doing everything wrong. In our ten years of marriage, Dare has never raised his hand up in an attempt to hit me. But it happened today. I'm yet to recover from the shock," I told Rita truthfully.
" Look at you already chickening out instead of standing on your ground to collect the money. It's already month-end," Rita said sounding a bit angry.
" What if Dare doesn't increase the money?" I asked Rita.
" Well, let's wait and see what happens," Rita told me and with that I ended the call.
